A Throwaway Society formed in the summer of 2003 around the nucleus
of guitarist/vocalist Brandon Gilberston and bassist/vocalist Austin Stahl
- former bandmates in mellodic three-piece Swell 36. With the addition
of drummer Yaakov Birnbaum, the band quickly amassed a formidable set
of dynamic, emotional rock songs, mixing the raw-but-melodic aggression
of fellow mid-Atlantic bands Jawbox and Engine Down with the pop nuances
of bands like Death Cab for Cutie. They released two EPs in spring 2004
(one split with friends The Seldon Plan, one on their own). ATS
is currently working on dozens of new songs, with plans for a debut full-length
sometime in 2006.
